Insurance Coverage Legal Help - Lakewood, Colorado, Lawyers
What Can I do Before an Accident Happens?
One of the most important decisions you can make before you are ever involved in an accident is what company you choose to provide your insurance coverage. As you can tell during these hard economic times, not all insurance companies are created equal. Deciding what insurance company to purchase your insurance coverage through is a very important decision. Many people base their decision purely on economic reasoning, never stopping to consider the amount or type of insurance coverage they are buying or the reputation of the insurance company. Will they be there when you really need them?
At The Frickey Law Firm, we have spent years dealing with difficult insurance companies who will do anything to protect their own interests and not those of their customers. If you have questions about your insurance coverage or recovering compensation after an accident, call our lawyers at 303-237-7373 or 303-59-LEGAL.
Things You Can do to Protect Yourself Before an Accident
Although no one wants to think about getting in an accident, the truth is, we are all at risk every time we get in our cars, cross busy streets, and do day-to-day activities. Being prepared for an accident can prevent future problems and complications.
The best way to prepare yourself for an accident is to purchase the right type of insurance coverage from an insurance company you can trust. Many individuals find out that their insurance doesn't cover their accident-related expenses - only after an accident has occurred.
There is a new law that requires insurance companies to provide medical coverage as part of automobile coverage to individuals injured in accidents (see below.) Unfortunately, these insurance companies will do whatever they can to pay out the minimum amount possible - leaving injured victims with remaining expenses.
New Med-Pay Law
Governor Bill Ritter recently signed a bill that requires auto insurance companies to make $5,000 of medical payments coverage to policyholders injured in auto accidents (10-4-635 Medical payments coverage). Before this law was passed, there was no medical coverage required as part of automobile insurance coverage and people hurt in car accidents either had to pay for their car-related injury treatment through their private health insurance coverage or on their own. This bill requires automobile carriers to offer and include this as part of your coverage.
Red Flag Insurance Companies
At The Frickey Law Firm, we know which insurance companies have a bad reputation - mainly because we've worked with so many of them. According to an article by the American Association for Justice, the 10 worst insurance companies are as follows:
- Allstate
- Unum
- AIG
- State Farm
- Conseco
- WellPoint
- Farmers
- UnitedHealth
- Torchmark
- Liberty Mutual
Many insurance companies' top priority is to make a profit, not to protect its policyholders. Paying out as little as possible is one technique that increases the profitability of insurance companies, at policyholders' expense. If you have insurance from any of the companies listed above, it is wise to do research and stay informed to determine whether this is your best insurance option. Also, ask yourself this: If I got in an accident, would one of these companies be there for me, protecting my best interests?
