Car Accidents Cause Spinal Cord Injury, Death

Many drivers forget about the dangers of the road, especially when they have been lucky enough to avoid involvement in an accident for a considerable amount of time. Driving safely should not be taken for granted because the effects of a car accident can be catastrophic. Some people know this, having sustained damage to the spine during a crash, something that can leave a person either partially or fully paralyzed. Paralysis is one of the worst things that an accident can cause because it permanently alters the course of a person’s life. Another dramatic consequence of an accident is death, specifically because it ends a person’s life.

A recent crash near Ault, Colorado, showcased the tragic changes that a car accident can bring about. According to reports, a 49-year-old man from Severance, Colorado, lost his life in the accident. Another man — this one a 46-year-old from Evans, Colorado, — was seriously injured in the crash. Police believe this latter man may have been to blame for the crash, potentially opening up a chance for the loved ones of the 49-year-old to pursue a personal injury or wrongful death suit. Legal expertise is often essential to understanding a case such as this, so asking for the guidance of a lawyer is a smart decision.

Investigators believe that the 46-year-old man was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am on Weld County Road 31. He was heading north as he approached a stop sign at Colorado 14. The driver reportedly swerved around a car that was stopped at the sign to continue through the intersection; police said that it was traveling at a high rate of speed. That was when a 1989 Ford pickup truck collided with the right side of the Pontiac. Both vehicles went off the road. The Grand Am crashed through a fence and a sign post while the pickup truck rolled one and a quarter times. The 49-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene; the 46-year-old was hospitalized for his injuries, though they were not life threatening. His specific injuries were unclear, but it is possible that he sustained a spinal cord injury.
