The start of summer marks the height of motorcycle season. As a two-wheel enthusiast, you probably take your bike out for everything from mountain trips to city commuting. But all that time on the road increases your risk of a motorcycle accident

Motorcyclists were about 29 times more likely to die in a crash and four times more likely to be injured than passenger vehicle occupants per mile traveled in 2019. Our attorneys don’t want you to become a statistic. We’ve compiled some safety tips to keep in mind on your next ride:

  • Ensure that you’re properly licensed: A fair amount of motorcycle accidents involve people who don’t have valid motorcycle licenses. Getting the required license endorsement is a great way to learn the skills and knowledge it takes to ride a motorcycle.
  • Get familiar with your motorcycle: It’s a good idea to get accustomed to a new or unfamiliar motorcycle by taking it for a spin somewhere without traffic. You should also make sure that you know how to handle it in a range of situations and weather conditions. Don’t forget to inspect your motorcycle for safety issues before every ride.

  • Wear the right gear: Riding a motorcycle in the summer can feel hot and stuffy. That doesn’t mean you should head out in your favorite t-shirt and baseball cap. Always wear a motorcycle helmet and protective layers of clothing.

  • Ride responsibly: Safe riders obey local traffic laws. Don’t speed, make sudden lane changes, use drugs or alcohol, or take other unnecessary risks on your motorcycle. You could increase your risk of a crash and hurt your ability to receive money for your injuries.
